Cancer touches all of us eventually...whether it be a family member, a close friend, a colleague or oneself. Those who battle are fierce and determined, and those who love them do whatever they can to show support and honor that fight.
Our dear friend Jordy is fighting the battle, and we honor him and his family in the best ways we know how: raising money for the research to advance treatments/prevention, and making LOTS of wonderful memories with our Team Jordy friends while doing it!
Every year so far has been different, and 2025 is no exception:
- In 2021 I joined the cyclist side of Team Jordy with a reimagined ride on a route of our choosing: six of us rode a hundred miles or so, split (about 80/20) over two days.
- In 2022 we stepped things up and three of us tackled a hundred miles in ONE day, in 100 degree heat (!), on an official PMC route that started and finished in Wellesley, MA.
- In 2023, we took it to yet another level and five of us rode the two day Wellesley-to-Provincetown-via-Bourne route...a total of 163 miles.
- In 2024 we had ten Team Jordy members, including Jordy himself, ride twenty-five miles from Wellesley to Foxboro.
- This year, I am among four cyclists training for 109 miles on day one from Sturbridge to Bourne - the last year PMC will offer this route before moving the starting line to the College of the Holy Cross for future events. Then on day two, those four will be joined by at least five more...including Jordy!...to ride 50 miles from Wellesley to Foxboro and back to Wellesley.
Obviously this is going to take a lot of training, but the team is up for the challenge. We will be building up our collective endurance on the bike, and more importantly we have renewed our commitment to the fundraising side of this endeavor for all of the TJ riders. Why? Because we are committed to the REAL mission of PMC, namely supporting Dana-Farber so that someday maybe cancer will be a thing of the past.
Find us on Facebook and/or Instagram to stay in the loop on events. We have a couple in the works that involve great beer and excellent music, and we would love to see lots of supporters turn out.
My PMC ride also honors Riley, Janelle, Caryn, Tina, Bill, Jeanie, Mary Beth and Leo.
