Why I Ride ...
This is my 2nd PMC and I am proud to be riding as a member of the Patriots Platelet Pedalers, a team of riders raising critical research dollars for Dr. Ken Anderson, the Kraft Family Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. 100% of the money the team raises is earmarked to support Dr. Anderson’s research and development of novel therapies to treat Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer that my wife Kellie has been courageously and gracefully undergoing treatment for since 2016. Kellie has been a direct beneficiary of the amazing fundraising success of this dedicated team of riders. While the team’s fundraising is directed to this specific research, Dr. Anderson’s innovations have had tremendous impact on treatment outcomes for patients with many other cancers.
In 2020, the Patriots Platelet Pedalers was the largest team to ever ride in a PMC and the 200-rider team raised $1.2 million, the sixth consecutive year that in excess of $1 million was raised! The team has raised an impressive $12 million in the last 13 years which includes generous matching support from the Kraft family.
In addition to my wife, I am also riding to honor my Mom and sister-in-law who are “living proof” breast cancer survivors. I am thankful for the critical donor support, the remarkable research and the unbelievably committed medical professionals who have helped them and many others. The PMC donates 100% of every ride-raised dollar to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, making it the Institute’s largest single contributor and I’m honored to participate. Thank you for supporting my ride, and this amazing team and research effort.
