3rd Year is a Charm!!!! I am riding the PMC Challenge again this year to support pediatric cancer research for the Dana Farber Institute. Last year over 6,000 riders raised over $72 million dollars and this year we are closing on raising a cumulative $1 billion for cancer research.
Why I am riding: In 2022, I rode the Pan Mass Challenge for the first time. Unlike the many marathons and road races I have run over the past 45 years, onlookers cheered the Pan Mass Challenge riders for raising funds for important cancer research and not for the invidual athletes' running or riding efforts. It was an amazing and awe-inspiring community event, and together, we raised over $72 million to fund cancer research. The sense of community and purpose is inspiring.
Pediatric Cancer: This year I will continue to support the important cause of cancer research - and particularly that associated with pediatric cancer - as no child should suffer from this horrible disease. I continue to honor a Phillips Andover high school classmate, Mark Bamford's son Alex, a Ewing's Sarcoma survivor - and I will ride with Mark and Team A-Bam this year, raising money for research for Alex and other children who are battling pediatric cancer. All of the money Team A-Bam raises goes to fund pediatric cancer research. By the way, Alex continues to be cancer free and he just graduated from The University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. Last year Alex joined the team and rode the last 75 miles and he plans on a return ride in 2024.
