2024 PMC & YEAR 14 FOR THIS GUY
To my donors: Last year was a banner year for the Midnight Riders...because of YOU. Thank you for making the Pan Mass Challenge and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute a priority. This event accounts for more than 60% of DFCI's total fundraising and I'm beyond proud to be a part of such a crew of supporters...and you ought to feel good about it too.
When I think back on all the people I've met, and the ways that the collective effort of millions of riders and supporters has been able to improve quality of life for so many people that we know and care about, it's enough to make me never want to stop...and so here we go again!
We received an opportunity several years ago to align our team with Katherine Janeway at Dana-Farber and Children’s Hospital Boston. Dr. Janeway leads the national charge in pediatric solid tumor care and research, specifically osteosarcomas and soft-tissue tumors. It's a particularly brutal corner of the oncology world and Katharine and her team are advancing science and working hard for better outcomes for these kids every day. She shared a personal message with me for you all again this year:
Nate: Again, some background for your wonderful supporters...
Osteosarcoma is the most common cancer arising from the bone. It affects young children, teenagers, and young adults. The treatment we use has been around since the 1980s and involves strong chemotherapy and surgery. Most patients are in treatment for almost a year, and it is quite difficult to attend school or work while receiving treatment. The surgery has life-long effects on physical appearance and functioning. While this intensive treatment regimen is successful in curing osteosarcoma 60% of the time, that is not enough. The Janeway research group and laboratory use the funds you provide to initiate and sustain clinical trials of new treatments. Patients travel from all over New England and the country to participate in these trials. The PMC funds are helping to identify the factors preventing chemotherapy from working in all patients and thus what new cancer drugs are more likely to be effective. 100% of PMC funds go directly to research so every dollar you contribute will work to increase the cure rate for osteosarcoma. I cannot thank you enough!!
I am so grateful for you joining me in getting behind Katharine and her team.
Thank you so much and have a GREAT summer.
Love,
Nate

Since 1980, the PMC has raised $972 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause, generating 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue as Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor.
