More Than Just A Ride…
Team Turk has always held a special place in my heart. As many of you know, Team Turk was started 4 years ago in honor of my dad, Mike Turcotte, and his fight against esophageal cancer. He was able to participate in the 1st Team Turk PMC ride but unfortunately lost his long battle with cancer in June of 2015. The team is riding both days of PMC weekend this year in honor of my dad and to help raise money for a cause he was SO passionate about.
Without the care from Dana Farber Cancer Institute, I would never have gotten to spend Christmas with my dad in Hawaii, he would never have gotten to see me graduate high school, and he would not have been able to move me into college at Clemson University. For that, I will be forever grateful to Dana Farber.
To honor my dad, last year we served as a PMC Pedal Partner. The Pedal Partner Program offers an inspiring opportunity for PMC cyclists to connect with pediatric cancer patients who are being treated at the Jimmy Fund Clinic.
Last year we teamed with our own pedal partner, 13 year old Katherine Bowen. As we met her, she was coming off bone marrow transplant recovery, in isolation. We are so so happy to report she is back to 100% and resuming the normal life of a teenager. Katherine’s mom said “It is hard to believe this was just two years ago. We are so grateful to have our girl home and healthy again. What a journey.”
With that being said, I ask you all to PLEASE consider donating to the Team Turk ride. Last year, Team Turk was able to raise almost $30,000 alone, which raises our 3 year team total to $77,000
Help me continue my dad’s legacy by raising as much money for Dana Farber, which raised over $46 million dollars in 2016 from the PMC alone and over half a billion dollars since the first ride in 1980! 100% of the donations go directly to Dana Farber and their cutting edge research. Nothing would make me, and I know my dad, happier than to raise money for Dana Farber so that no family ever has to endure the pain that cancer brings.
