This will be my 15th year participating in the PMC. Many of you have supported me on this journey for most of that time, and together we have raised over $112,000.00 for cancer research.
The first year of the PMC, I wanted to enter with something special, so I made a bamboo bike with my buddy Curtis Krause. The thing about making a weird bike is that everyone wants to know what's next, so every year people ask “when are you going to make another bamboo bike?” After many years, I’m finally happy to say that for my 15th PMC, I’ll be riding on a new, home-built bamboo bike. The bamboo was cut from the side of the road of one of my favorite training rides.
I’ve also doubled my training commitment this year. I will have ridden over 1000 miles on my bike before the PMC weekend starts. Your commitment to this cause helps motivate me to continue participating and pushing forward every year.
I keep coming back to this 200-mile ride year after year for the loved ones who left us too early due to what will one day be preventable diseases. I also ride for those lucky enough to benefit from modern treatments and medicine and still live their best lives today. My father and I are among those who have had cancer and survived.
What makes the PMC different from many other charities is that 100% of the money raised goes directly to cancer research. What makes the Dana-Farber - Team Flames - different from many other teams is that our team is made up of Doctors, Nurses, Patients, and caregivers. The money raised for our team goes to Adult Oncology and Lymphoma Clinical studies. The research we're funding helps save countless lives and has had a direct impact on my family and many of my friends in the living proof community.
With cuts to science, education, and research funding from the federal government, there has never been a more crucial time to support this life-saving research. We've never been closer to discovering new treatments and technologies to reduce this pain and suffering.
I could not be prouder to be part of this team, our doctors and nurses who dedicate themself to this cause, and this community of supporters who make this charity what it is.
If you can, please pitch in a few bucks to help us kick cancer in the pants.
Every donation brings us closer by the mile.
Thank you,
Max Tubman
