I'm riding this year for many reasons. I'm riding for my father, Alvin Silverstein, whose prostate cancer was treated at Dana-Farber. I'm riding for my father-in-law, Minoru Hironaka, who did not have access to an institution like Dana-Farber and succumbed to a rare form of colon cancer. I'm riding for my childhood friends, Seth and Jill Feldman, who shared an unfortunate cancer-causing gene. Seth died at age 18, a college freshman; Jill died at age 43, a lawyer, wife, and mother. I'm riding for Tess Gallagher, who performed my and Kari's wedding ceremony on Lopez Island in 2004. Tess had just been treated for breast cancer at the time, and is a long-term survivor! I'm also riding for all the children and partners, whose lives have been changed by losing a loved one.
