January is sign-up time for the PMC and somehow, in the dead of winter, the thought of doing the two-day ride (Wellesley to Provincetown) seemed like a good idea. The heat and rain have made it a challenging time to train this year, but these are trivial inconveniences given what is at stake.

Your support this year is more important than ever given the devastatingly cruel cuts to critical research so vindictively imposed by the current administration. The role of ongoing research is critical to saving lives. Just last month, the New York Times ran this story with the hopeful headline of "From No Hope to Potential Cure for Deadly Blood Cancer." Would that this was a possibility three years ago.

We can all play a role in ensuring that these research efforts – which can save lives – continue and accelerate, so that they reach those in need. Dana-Farber leads much of that work and I hope I can count on your generous support again this year.

I’ll be riding for those we’ve lost and for those enduring the heavy work of treatment. I ride with the names of loved ones who have died and those in treatment or cured in my back pocket. Let me know if you would like me to add any names to these lists. I like to think that they are pushing me forward. And I've again elected that the funds I raise go to the patient assistance fund to provide access to care for those who cannot otherwise afford it.
