I will be training really hard for the hardest physical challenge I will ever experience! I will be riding 200 miles as part of the Pan-Mass Challenge on August 4th and 5th. The Pan-Mass Challenge is the largest sports fund raising event in the country. Every penny raised goes to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
This will be my 2nd year doing this ride. The incredible experience of riding with 6,100 other riders (from all over the World) last year was both memorable and touching. To see all these riders come together to push themselves to the physical limits to raise $ for Dana Farber Institute was like nothing I have ever experienced in my life so far. It was emotional beyond words and I cried a few times through the ride. We met so many cancer survivors and people who have lost loved ones to cancer or are battling cancer right now. Got to meet several kids who are battling cancer, some as young as a few months old. Those were really rough moments and it was hard to hold back the tears. Local people lined up on streets all along… even when we rode at 5am to cheer us. Some stories were so heart breaking and other just downright heartwarming! It was a weekend of absolute goodness all around and I feel so blessed that we were able to be a part of it!
Cancer continues to affect people and their families in a big way. And although so much progress has been made, there is still a long way to go to find a cure. And none of this is possible without the generosity of wonderful people like you. Almost everyone I know has been affected by cancer in some way, whether directly or indirectly. I have first-hand experienced the impact cancer can have on a family. I was just 21 years old when my dad was diagnosed with cancer in a very advanced stage. I, along with my mom and siblings, helplessly watched his health deteriorate rapidly. Losing him was very hard on us and one of the saddest day of our lives. I have spent years since then hoping that no other family should ever have to experience that devastating pain and loss. And I feel that the Pan-Mass Challenge is giving me a chance to help other families.
When I first heard of Pan-Mass through a dear friend I was excited about this amazing event for so many reasons. The most important one being that Pan-Mass Challenge gives us the opportunity to help other people dealing with this deadly disease. It is my heartfelt hope that with all the $ we raise together we can make a meaningful contribution to the cause to save more lives so that other families can hopefully have a happier ending.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. Your contribution means a lot to me.
