I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
I will be riding in memory of my Mom, Joan Nolan Lyons, both my grandmothers, my good friend Shari, and in honor of my wife, Colleen Riemer.
My mom faced her first battle with breast cancer when she was 35 years old. She went through chemotherapy and a mastectomy at the time to win this battle. Many years later the cancer came back, this time in her lungs. After being through chemo once, she refused to do it again. Instead she chose an alternative approach, this time changing her diet to starve out the tumors. 18 months later she was declared cancer free, again. 2 weeks before christmas in 2018 the battle began again for my mom, this time on her liver. In march of 2019 she lost that battle.
In september of 2020, my wife had begun experiencing pain in her abdomen and a loss of apetite. After visiting the doctor about the issue, she was diagnosed, at the age of 36, with a rare form of cancer called Retroperitoneal Liposarcoma. After being through what we went through the prior year we knew we had to look for the best of the best. We found that treatment in Boston. After radiation treatment, and surgery, just before the new year, my wife had surgery to remove the tumor that was plaguing her. Now, in 2021 we celebrate her being cancer free. Having seen what the research and medical science can do these days, i feel the need to give back in whatever way possible. This will be my tribute to my mom and wife, and a way to help find cures to help others in the future.
