Dear Friends:
2024 has arrived and we are in motion!
Our team is already 30 strong and this year marks my 28th consecutive personal effort to raise important funds for cancer research and specifically with our own team mate Dr. Katie Janeway's world class work. Katie is a very active team member/rider and offers the following relative to how our direct fundrasning is impacting the lives of her patients and familiies:
Note from Dr. Katie Janeway, P4K Teammate and Lead Researcher
The genomic sequencing supported by your donations directly impacts the future of innovative care and research wordwide as Katie is also a world class collabotrator! For 2024, we're pleased to announce the addition of Dr. David Shulman to our team (clinincally and as an avid cyclist on our team)! Dr. Shulman (former mentee of Katie's) expands our impact to include pediatric to adult population clinical trails.
By finding the underlying genomic cause through participation in the Precision For Kids + Adults supported precision medicine program, chemotherapy is often stopped. And in it's place, medication taken by mouth often counteracts the genomic abnormality making the cancer grow. This new treatment not only has fewer side effects than the chemotherapy but it also can shrink the tumors significantly and allow for more managable treatment and often remission.
Successes in precision medicine are transformative for children and their parents. Our support of genomic sequencing for children (and now adults) with cancer has, over the years, provided the needed evidence to make genomic sequencing part of standard care for children with cancer.
We are excited to see where this new approach will lead us in 2024 and beyond!
Thanks Katie and team for making this story happen
My good friends and loyal supporters-any amount you can donate will help preserve the high quality, innovative research and care Dana-Farber provides every single day.
