Ten years of remission from advanced ovarian cancer - and trust me, there's not a day that goes by that in some small, internal way I don't acknowledge how lucky I am, given that so many women I've known over these years through Turning the Tide Ovarian Cancer Retreat (that I help organize and run) have died or are in on-going treatment. So here I am, and I'm back riding in this year's 2025 PMC ride! Our team, Pook's Pedalers has raised over a million dollars since Judith Souweine, our team captain, began riding in this event in 2007 when her husband, Jonathan (aka Pook) was diagnosed with leukemia. This year, our pedal partner is Matilda Danoff, Tilly. Tilly, our teammate Sue Zarchin's granddaughter, is dealing with a low-grade glioma in her cervical spine. She has been receiving treatment at DF for the past several years. Like so many of you have experienced, family and friends have been diagnosed with cancer. Given the federal government's slashes in funding for medical research, it is even more important to donate at whatever level is comfortable.
To ride in this 2-day event, I commit to raise $6,000 for DFCI. This year, Devorah will ride the first day and meet us at the finish line in Provincetown. Together we are committed to raising $10,000. Several years ago, when we rode in the 3rd hottest ride since its inception, I was so grateful for the thousands of volunteers who stood out under the blistering hot sun in high humidity to provide us riders with food and other services. Some of the folks I spoke with had been volunteering for over 30 years. That's when it really hit me that the success of the PMC depends on 3 things - all equally as important as the other: our donors, our volunteers and our riders. I hope that you will join our team by making a contribution - and a commitment to help us do what we can for cancer research.
I am so very grateful for any amount that you can contribute to PMC, Dana Farber's single largest fund raiser. Know that 100% of your donation goes to cancer research and is tax deductible.
Thank you!
