Most people understand why someone raises money to fight cancer, to cure cancer, to prevent cancer. Behind every individual who contributes does so for personal reasons. Do you or someone you love have cancer? Have you successfully fought cancer? Do you have annual screenings to prevent cancer? The only reason we know what to do to combat this deadly problem is because of cutting edge and oftentimes expensive research. Yes, there are grants and government funding for research but it's not enough. We can do more to help and donating money to the Dana Farber helps fight cancer. Every single dollar given goes to cancer research. This year, I've chosen to help fight lung cancer specifically. Why lung cancer? Well, it's simple - I know a number of people who have suffered from or have died of this terrible version of cancer. And, lung cancer research is lagging behind in funding. Why would it lag? Some of it is stigma - the false belief that only people who smoke get lung cancer. Did you know that more people get lung cancer who never smoked than those who do. So, if you can spare $5 or $50 or just a good wish, please send it along. I know times are tough and I do not expect anyone to give who cannot. All donations are considered charitable giving for tax purposes.
