I am a proud member of Team Daisy/Summit Partners – a very special group of people who ride the PMC each year in memory of our loved ones whom we have lost to cancer and in honor of those friends & family that have been touched by cancer and may continue to be fighiting that battle. Team Daisy was formed in 1997 by Pete and Barbara Locke in honor of their daughter Daisy who was diagnosed with a pediatric brain tumor in 1996. As you read on, you will learn why this year is a very emotional ride for many of us on the team.
First & foremost, in keeping with my PMC tradition, I ride forever in memory of my dear brother Ben. We lost Ben to cancer in 2009 at the age of 50. My family will always remember our Ben who faced this disease with such strength & tenacity. We miss him so each and every day. It was then in 2010 I became committed to the PMC and its efforts in helping cancer research & cures.
In 2025, I will also be riding in memory of our dear Capt. Pete whom we lost this past year after a tough battle of cancer himself. Capt. Pete (seen here in my profile picture) brought us all together to ride for this cause and then horribly was struck with the disease himself. Life truly is not fair sometimes. Pete lived a life with a very kind & caring heart and remarkably never complained about his own misfortunes.
Most importantly, and with a heavy heart, Team Daisy has lost our Sweet Daisy after fighting cancer and all the other medical challenges that came with it for most of her 30 years of life. Daisy passed away on July 17, 2024 shortly after her 30th birthday. We miss that beautiful smile and her spunk to sing along to whatever Disney tune played. You've got a Friend in Me, a good friend indeed Daisy!
This ride in '25, I will be going back to my original route option of Sturbridge to Provincetown. Just celebrated my 60th birthday, got this bucket list thing going, and think I can pull off just one more of this route at the same time the PMC's longest route option is being reduced and leaving Sturbridge! 190 miles here I come!
I truly appreciate any support you can provide to help support cancer research and care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. They truly do amazing work in helping cancer research & cures around the world! And 100% of rider-raised revenue has gone & continues to go directly to support the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
