Why I Ride ...
I ride in honor of my mom and dad, with the hope that one day no lives will be saddened or cut short by the devastating impact of cancer. My mom survived breast cancer this year thanks to the incredible medical advances in recent decades. My dad passed away in 2017 from a glioblastoma, a highly aggressive brain tumor.
Each year worldwide, many millions of people like my dad, mom, aunt, grandparents and countless close friends are diagnosed with cancer. These loved ones are not defined by their illness, but rather by their strength. The Pan Mass Challenge is a way to celebrate that strength and raise money to create better outcomes, advance new therapies, and push further toward a cure.
The PMC has been in my family for as long as I can remember. My parents rode together for nearly three decades and my mom continues to carry on that legacy each year. When we were too young to ride, my siblings and I hosted lemonade stands for riders, collected donations and volunteered along the route.
The first weekend in August, I’m thrilled to join my family and close friends on Team Lizard to ride my 11th PMC. I hope you’ll consider supporting us – each dollar counts toward research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Love,
Melissa
