Friends,
Another year, another amazing ride! It never gets old seeing so many cancer survivors riding, volunteering and expressing their gratitude for everyone coming together to raise money to Beat Cancer!
When I think about my 13 years doing the PMC ride, I think about how hard the thousands of riders and volunteers work - blocking off and marking the different routes, supplying the incredible food and drink stations, setting up the oft-needed medical and bike mechanic tents, lining up the sponsors, promoting the ride, ironing out the logistics and of course, grinding out the 100+ of miles in the saddle, over the hills, up the false flats, through the wind-filled dunes....all in an effort to help people battle cancer.
When I think about my 24 years working in tech, I think about how hard people work building new companies, breaking into new markets, battling all the competitors, helping customers through the twists and turns of deployments and most importantly, recruiting, retaining and developing great people in an effort to build a great culture and help people have a great work experience and develop in their careers.
I can't think of anyone in my career who has helped more people, built a better work culture and worked harder than Christina Luconi, Chief People Officer at Rapid7, a tech company in Boston that I was fortunate enough to be a part of 10 years ago. On June 8th, 2003, Christina was diagnosted with a rare blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma. Since then, Christina has been to Mass General Hospital over 50 times, been on kidney dialysis for a month a half, had spinal surgery to repair her broken pelvis, completed seven rounds of chemo, and undergone a bone marrow transplant. Fortunately, Christina's cancer is in remission and she is starting to return to a somewhat normal life, but there is still no cure.
Thank you for considering a donation to help people live with cancer, fight cancer and ideally, cure cancer!
As Christina would say, LFG!
Ride on.....
