Hope all is well with you. I’m late starting my PMC fundraising again this year. I’ve been off the bike for 2 1/2 weeks with anaplasmosis from a tick bite and staying out of the sun because I’m on antibiotics for 15 days.

The 2025 PMC is on August 2nd and 3rd with the Team Huckleberry NY state line to Sturbridge ride is on Friday August 1st. This is my 31st PMC. I also plan to volunteer to post the route and ride the PMC Unpaved 50-mile gravel ride on October 4th in the Berkshires.

Another Huck was diagnosed with cancer this year. Glioblastoma is a highly aggressive and malignant type of brain cancer. He plans to ride and his daughter is riding Sunday from MMA to Ptown.

The PMC goal for this year is $76 million for the Jimmy Fund. In the last 30 years, sponsors of my ride have helped raise $352,000 for the Jimmy Fund by supporting the PMC. My goal is to raise $23,000 this year.

My closing comments address this year’s record goal in a climate of economic uncertainty and science under attack. President Trump’s proposed 40% cut to the NIH budget, billions of which could impact Massachusetts. The negative impact to Dana-Farber could be $50 million, and as much as $200 million over the next four years.

NIH grants fuel the science that saves lives. These funds do not sit in an endowment, they’re at work in the labs and clinics of the Longwood Medical Area. Losing those funds and/or the people who utilize them means stalling progress. Risking jobs. Slowing the momentum in our fight against cancer. This is not politics. This is personal. Because when federal support is under attack, patients are the ones who pay the price. That is why what we do matters more than ever. We are the largest single contributor to Dana-Farber. And when others may pump the brakes, the PMC community needs to accelerate.

So yes, we ride to raise money. But as importantly, we ride to protect progress. We ride to defend hope. And we ride to ensure that nothing stands in the way of our funding the cures for cancer.
