Why I Ride ...
Cancer has a way of weeding itself into everyone's life. We spend time cultivating our lives prodding our family and friends to greener and greener pastures of perfect health and happiness. However we have variables that we can not control and have no defense; only steps we can take to limit the risk. There is no cure, we can only pull out the roots and pray they dont grow back. We struggle every day for a better place.
Sometimes a weed grows in the garden of the most gifted attendant. Sue Child's has spent her life, dedicated to the care of others. She has had the amazing thrill of giving people some of their most happy news but has been burdened with the task of delivering the worst. However, she always has cared and delivered both with the same personnel touch. When their was a weed she worked tirelessly to uproot it.
A few years ago someone else had to deliver the bad news to Sue. She was diagnosed with cancer. As she has seen through others, she knew the road ahead and knew she could never back down. She had seen the pain but also the miracles of life and knew which road she would walk. Instead of backing down she fought it and won.
Sadly, today, this is a war that can never be won. We fight cancer, battle by battle in hopes that it never springs up again. When Sue was diagnosed with cancer for the second time, she not only knew the road but had previously walked it. This did not deter her but propelled her forward, harder and stronger then before.
I am truly motivated by this spirit and we all can learn and strive for Sue's strength. This is a lesson that applies to everything we do from family, to work to community. To stand up takes and take conscious effort. The road to a perfect field is endless but we must all decide to continue to walk it.
However, Cancer does not need to be that way and that is why I am riding in the Jimmy Fund. Good people should not be burdened multiple times with the same battle. This world needs, deserves a cure for the people who want to stand up and walk the tough road.
This is why, I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
Please help support my ride and everyone else marching on the worlds toughest roads.
