Cancer sucks. But you know what doesn't? This ride.
We all have a story about how it has impacted someone in our life. My first brush with this was when my mother was diagnosed early in my high school years with uterine cancer. She was young, only a few years older than I am now. No longer was cancer something far removed from my life of calculus and PlayStation, but something close and sinister. Thanks to medical treatment, she has been cancer free for over 20 years.
In my twenties, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. This man who worked multiple jobs to put me through school, to landscape our entire yard with his own hands, the strongest guy I knew was put in a terrifying predicament. It was a quick diagnosis and treatment, but a long road to recovery. He remains cancer free today.
So I ride because cancer sucks. And the PMC raises a humbling sum of money for Dana Farber that goes directly to research. These research dollars are especially vital this year as we deal with senseless budget cuts from the federal government. I am grateful for the opportunity to support these efforts by riding the PMC with my team at Southern Glazer, formerly Horizon Beverage, for my third year.
It's hard to overstate how life changing this ride has been for me these past few years. I have made valuable friendships by the mile and seen living proof of every dollar raised. The hype for this one weekend a year is 100% justified - it is the best weekend of the year.
Every little bit helps, so please consider donating today. Thank you to everyone who has donated in my previous rides and continues to do so. Your contribution goes a long way!
