Since its founding in 1980, PMC riders like me have raised more than $1 billion for lifesaving cancer research, treatment, and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute—one of the country's leading cancer care hospitals.

My beautiful wife of 30 years, Helen, is alive today because of a breakthrough medication developed to treat Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). When Helen was diagnosed in 2019, her prognosis was grim—likely just six years to live. There were no effective treatments available for her rare and aggressive form of CLL. We were devastated, and our world was turned upside down.

In 2021, Helen was introduced to a brand-new medication called Acalabrutinib. Remarkably, it had just been FDA-approved and made available (marketed as Calquence) at the exact time she needed it most. The treatment has proven effective in managing her leukemia. Helen is living proof that the money raised to find cures truly makes a difference. Her prognosis is now much more hopeful—many more years of life ahead, with even better treatments on the horizon.

While Helen still faces challenges like daily fatigue and a weakened immune system, she continues to live a healthy, happy life.

This year, I hope you’ll support my ride. Helen and our two sons, Ryan and Nolan, will also be volunteering. We’ll be celebrating that Helen is still going strong—six years after her diagnosis, against all odds. Thanks to the PMC and her amazing care team at Dana-Farber, the world will have the gift of Helen’s loving heart for many more years to come.
