I am riding the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) on August 3 & 4 supporting the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). I will be riding 162 miles over two days from Wellesley, MA to Provincetown, MA to honor my mom, Marilyn Fields, who passed away from Leukemia almost 50 years ago. My mom possessed an incredible inner strength, had many passions and lovingly cared for my brother, sister and me while bravely fighting Leukemia for 5 years. She was able to live five years beyond her diagnosis due to the innovative care she received at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
The DFCI has continued from the 1970’s, a time when leukemia was nearly always fatal, when survival periods for most cancers were a fraction of what they are today. Currently, the DFCI is an heir to not only decades of advances against cancer but also of a way of thinking about cancer – not as a disease to be endured but one to be defied and eventually defeated. Beneficiaries of this include my sister Beth, my Aunt Annette, and many others who have been treated successfully at Dana Farber.
I'm excited to ride with Team FLAMES, along with Dana-Farber nurses, physicians, patients, survivors, and supporters, who are all committed to the research efforts of Dana-Farber. Team FLAMES dedicates our fundraising to research for leukemia and lymphoma. 100% of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Our team raised $1.3M last year, with many of you supporting!
Parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, and friends of friends... We all know someone who directly or indirectly has been affected by cancer. I pledge to ride 162 miles across Massachusetts this August for those who are fighting this battle and in memory of those who are no longer fighting the fight.
Since 1980, the PMC has raised $972M; the goal this year is to surpass $1 Billion. 100% goes directly to cancer research. If you are able, please join me, in helping fight this battle against cancer, every single dollar will help make a difference! Thank you for your support, and your generosity in donating and sharing my page!
If you prefer to write a check, please make it out to the PMC, The Jimmy Fund or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and mail it to me directly at:
