PMC2024 will be my 11th year riding and Evan's Crew's 11th year. 13 years ago I learned about PMC. My nephew, Evan, was diagnosed with DIPG in November 2011, which is a rare, always fatal pediatric brain tumor. My sister and her husband brought their beautiful, crazy, funny son Evan to Dana-Farber for a clinical trial and that is when we learned of PMC.
For those who don't know my story, I ride in memory of my nephew Evan who passed away November 2012 from DIPG at the age of 11: Exactly a year from when he was diagnosed. Evan always had a smile on his face, which would make you melt. His smile made it hard to get upset when I would see him sneaking a handful of M&Ms from the candy dish right before I was serving dinner :-) His firecracker personality is missed and will never be forgotten.
During his illness, I had the opportunity to spend the day with my sister and Evan at Dana-Farber and witness the amazing staff first-hand. My sister and brother-in-law had said the staff at Dana-Farber “were the nicest people they wish they had never met.”…so true. I felt it that day. They are truly amazing!
I look forward to riding again this year not only for Evan, but for all the people who have battled cancer and their families. Cancer affects everyone at some time in their life.
I ride this year to raise funds for DIPG research, so that another family won't have to go through what our family has gone through. 100% of the funds raised by Evan’s Crew will go directly to the Evan T. Mandeville DIPG research fund so that one day there will be a cure.
Thank you for your generosity.
