Why I Ride ...Back at it Again.
During 2003, we lost an exceptional person to cancer. Russell L. Epker was a father, husband, friend, fierce competitor, private equity investor with deep operating experience, sportsman, philanthropist, man of incredible character, and multiple-time rider of the PMC. There was nothing he could not do.
I joined the PMC during 2003 as a first time rider, using my father as my inspiration to train hard, raise money for critical research initiatives at the Dana Farber, and ride hard on a special August weekend. He was diagnosed in May 2003 with Non-Small Cell Lung cancer and ultimately developed lymphoma as well. He ultimately passed on November 4, 2003 due to complications associated with the cancer. He had touched the lives of so many.
We all have so many friends and family members deeply (and negatively) impacted by cancer. We all need to do what we can to help in the fight against cancer.
Well, I am at it again and would love your support for the PMC and Dana Farber. I am amazed at the progress that is being made and trust that our next generation will have a new regimen of preventatives, therapies, treatments, and ways to battle the disease. Over the past 35+ year, the PMC has raised and contributed nearly $680M for cancer research and I am pleased to be a part (however small) of this effort. I am really looking forward to this August when I will ride again with a great group of friends and family. Most importantly, my father will be with me all along the road to Provincetown.
