I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge and the largest single sports fundraiser in the world. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts tireless commitment to finding a cure.
This year I will hit the road along side of my mom Jocelyn (21 years), my dad Michael (8 years), my aunt Melissa (24 years) and my friend Matt (1st year). My sister's Marlee and Talia and my girlfriend Liv will be volunteering at the finish line to help celebrate this very special weekend and help in our families life long committment to putting an end to this deadly disease.
Cancer has hit my family in a profound way. In July 2023 we lost my Papa Buddy to a rare form of Leukemia. My Papa Buddy rode his lasts PMC in 2022 at the age of 82, it was his 22 year riding. In December 2022, my grandma Adrienne also passed from Lung cancer. I miss them so much and they serve as a motivational reminder that we can all make a difference and this year it's my turn to get involved.
The participation and committment of my family in the PMC started with the passing of my uncle Perry in 1999 after a short aggressive batttle with small bowel cancer. It was 25 years ago, July 4th weekend that Perry and my aunt Melissa sat in his hospital room to learn of his diagnosis – the entire family was devastated. Melissa, Perry, my mom and dad were married in a double wedding less than 2 years before and he was the picture of health! Four months later, he was gone. It is still unthinkable that Perry, a marathon runner and tri-athlete, lost his life at the age of 32.
Team Perry was born shortly after his passing and has grown into a team of many riders that hit a staggering 10 million dollar fundraising milestone last year. All donations are directed toward the Perry S. Levy for Gastrointestinal Cancer at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. In addition to funding groundbreaking research into therapies and technology to change the landscape of cancer treatment for patients, Team Perry pays the annual salary of some incredibly brilliant Fellows who've made enormous contributions to the research and treatment at Dana-Farber.
So here it comes. Please GIVE and please know that no amount is too small, or too big!
I really mean that.

Matt
