Why I ride –

I ride to honor the memory of a colleague who lost his battle to lung cancer before he even was able to enjoy retirement after 40 years of service to our company.  I ride to honor the memory of a friend who succumbed after 5 years of treatment for stage 4 colon cancer.  I ride to honor the memory of my father who did not have the opportunity to see many of his grandchildren grow up to honor his legacy. I ride to honor the legion of “living proof” survivors.

The team that I ride for is known as the FLAMES (Fast Legs And Minds Ending Suffering). This team has been in existence for 21 years and has raised over $8.4M for cancer research.

The FLAMES supports two key research departments in Dana Farber, The Adult Leukemia department and the Adult Lymphoma research department. The discoveries being made in these labs by the doctors are unrestricted by pharma funding, believe in “open-source” sharing of discovery, and focus on results and discoveries that are amplified well beyond blood cancers. The research by these teams is often universally applicable to all cancers. This unrelenting “open-source” clinical work within the non-profit Dana Farber Cancer Institute is leading the way not only here in the US but across the world. That is where your donations to my PMC will be directed.
