Dear Family & Friends,
It's with a heavy heart that I write this letter. On June 8th Christy's mom Carol lost her battle metastatic breast cancer. Carol was an energetic, witty, and caring woman. She was a talented artist, devoted mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed swimming and hiking on Cape Cod. Her love for us and our kids was boundless. From our first trip to Disney to all the time spent on the cape with her, she provided us with so many unforgettable memories. Holiday's will certainly never be the same. We'll miss her dearly.
Due to the virus, the PMC has been re-imagined as a virtual event. The kids really wanted to do something special to honor their grandma. So, during the first week of August Sean will be swimming a mile! Emma and Avery are going to run a 5k and I will be riding that final leg of the PMC from Barnstable to Provincetown.
It'll be a lonely ride this year but will be full of memories. Along with my many thoughts of Carol, I'll be thinking of my dad. Billy D, who beat cancer years ago but unfortunately dementia took him from us this past June. Thoughts of Christy's aunt Arlene on Mayflower Beach and of course my friend Chris whom I can't step on a golf course and not hear him telling me "take two weeks of and quit”.
Not all the memories will be sad though. I'll remember the good times I enjoyed with all of them. I'll especially remember the success stories too. Like my little 9-year-old peddle partner Kayleigh. Who's as tough as nails and kicked Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia's ass! She's a true inspiration to us all and it's why we must continue to ride, swim, and run to beat cancer!
Love,
Michael, Christy, Sean, Emma, and Avery
