Dear Family, Friends and Supporters,
We all know a family member or friend who has been stricken by cancer. I am no exception, in the last ten years alone several members of my family as well as close friends and mentors have been stricken by the disease. We should not be surprised as one in two men and one in three women will get cancer. What can we do; we can help those best suited to care or find the cure.
So, this year I will again participate in the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC). The Pan-Mass Challenge is a Massachusetts-based bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. Always held the first weekend in August, the PMC raises funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a world leader in adult and pediatric cancer treatment and research.
The PMC offers rider 26 diffrent routes and I will be riding the two-day 192-mile ride event with team Velominati; a 65-member strong team from all over the US. The team was formed over ten years ago and through its tenure has raised over $1.8 million.
So why the PMC?
The PMC is leading a charge to beat cancer.
PMC's unheard of 100% efficiency rating -100% of every rider-raised dollar goes to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The PMC has raised $970 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since it's launch in 1980. Today, the PMC is the single largest contributor to Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund and is responsible for over 60 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue.
DFCI, New England’s #1 facility and the only research hospital in the country to be ranked in the top 4 for both pediatric and adult oncology. The DFCI works closely with the leading minds at Harvard and MIT to find a cure.
The DFCI has produced more cancer cure and treatment protocols approved by the FDA over the last 5 years than any other research facility. In fact, 50% of all FDA approved treatments have come from Dana Farber.
To get ready for the two day, 192 mile event, I began training in early March and hope to have completed 2,500 miles ahead of the event to meet the challenge. So I ask you to please invest in helping to find the cure.
Help me raise $15,000.
Best
Max
