Why I Ride ... for my sister who is now an angel. <3
On January 30, 2014 I lost the other half of me... I lost my big sister, Dana Parker. My family lost a daughter, a sister, a mother, a wife, an aunt, a niece, a cousin, a friend and the brightest smile that would light up any room and turn a bad day good instantly. Dana was a fighter. She fought until the VERY end. She taught everyone that more than half of the battle was a positive attitude and a fighting spirit. She had both in spades! Dana was an inspiration for us all. She inspired my mother and father to continue the battle for Sarcoma awareness after Dana's passing and in honor of those who continue to battle against this cancer dragon. The Sarcoma Cycling Brigade was born out of that inspiration and dedication. I am honored to join their fight this year!
My son was born six months after Dana left this earth and my daughter arrived in late 2015. Neither of them knew Dana in her physical form, but they know her picture, they carry her name, they know her story and they know how much she was loved and how much we miss her. This year, my virtual ride is in honor of Dana and so no one else will ever know what it feels like to lose your other half.
