Pedaling to honor my son's cancer fight
Dear Family and Friends,
I have been riding the Pan Mass Challenge for 11 years hoping and praying that my fundraising efforts will help in some way to find cures to cancer and improve the lives of those fighting this terrible disease. I didn’t ride the PMC in 2022. On August 8th during PMC weekend my son Jacob died from Uveal Melanoma. This cancer is very rare and very deadly with few viable treatment options. I watched this terrible cancer attack his body and was so helpless to do anything. He was in so much pain; he fought so hard and was so brave to the end. Unfortunately, Jacob was not a stranger to Melanoma. Ten years earlier Jacob contracted Uveal Melanoma when he was 14 and lost his left eye. At the time we thought he beat cancer and could continue to live his life. Cancer does not play fair and stole from us and the world an amazing young man, incredibly talented and loved by so many.
Over the years I have known many people who have fought cancer (including my wife). It was Jacob’s initial cancer fight 10 years ago that motivated me to start to ride in the Pan Mass Challenge and fundraise for cancer research. My family and I will never be the same and know all too well the pain and grief cancer causes. Although there have been many dark days since Jacob got sick, I have been lifted again and again by my bicycling community and the commitment by family, friends, and strangers to donate and help fight cancer and honor Jacob’s memory. My goal this year is to raise $10,000 and I am supporting the Melanoma research team at Dana Farber. Every dollar raised will help find a cure for cancer and help those suffering these terrible diseases. The PMC donates 100% of the money raised to the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber.
I hope you will consider supporting my PMC ride - any donation is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support - everyone has a story and I want to hear yours.
