It is hard to believe it has been 35 years since my mother died of cancer. She was much too young to die and I was much too young to lose her. Not too many days go by when I don’t think about all she has missed. She has missed almost all of life’s milestones of mine and my 3 brothers and we miss her presence. She was an amazing mother, teacher and friend and I know much of her lives on through me.
Most of you know how committed I have been since I started the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) in 1996. With a few missed years when life got in the way, I will ride my 16th PMC this August 6th and 7th 2016 with 5000+ riders and 3500+ volunteers with a common goal of wanting to do whatever we can to eradicate this nasty disease called cancer. Cancer robs us of time together and takes loved ones before life reaches its natural conclusion.
Last year we raised $45 million in 2 days for a total of $500 million in the 37-year history of the PMC! These are huge dollars that support the Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund in Boston Ma. 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to Dana Farber. That is an amazing statistic that should make you feel very good about how your charitable dollars are put to use. The research that has come out of the Dana Farber has changed how cancer is being treated and huge progress to an eventual cure and a world without cancer.
I’m asking for your support as I ride my bike 200 miles across Massachusetts on a hot weekend in August. One of my daughters, Abby (in the picture above) will be joining me for the second year as a volunteer. The PMC goal for 2016 is $47 million and my personal goal is $7000. Please be part of a vision of a world without cancer and donate what you see fit. I will continue to do my part and ride my bike! Please hit the DONATE button to the right. I deeply appreciate your support: each and every contribution will make a real and meaningful difference in the fight to find a cure.
If you click on the picture of Abby and I, you will see a few pics from over the years and the last picture is of my mom.
With love, sweat and committment,
Libby
