My name is Lauren. I've been riding for 27 years and this is my first PMC.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
I am choosing to ride my first PMC in 2021 in honor of one incredible woman and in memory of another.
First, I am riding in honor of Tammy Brown, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoes surgery on April 21. Tammy is a mother, sister, daughter, friend, mentor, military veteran, member of the LGBTQ+ community and all-around amazing individual. Tammy is my best friend's older sister and was my mom's best friend growing up, so this fight is personal to me.
Second, I am riding in memory of Charlotte Cordeiro, a titan of a woman who courageously fought Stage 4 leukemia and received treatments at Dana-Farber. Charl raised me after my mother died, becoming my second mom and giving me the opportunity to live a better life. This May marks five years since we said our final goodbyes, and I cannot think of a better way to honor the Portuguese-Italian Nonna who never backed down than by riding these 192 miles in her memory.
As a Trek Bicycle Co. brand ambassador, I look forward to representing the team that helped me get my own health back in gear and helps millions of people #gobybike each and every year, as part of Trek's commitment to helping better the planet by creating the world's best bicycles.
My PMC 2021 bike will be built and serviced by the local experts at Trek Bicycle Rhode Island. Check them out @TrekBicycleRhodeIsland to get started with your own Trek today.
