This year's edition of the Pan-Mass Challenge is going to be a special one for everyone who knows about and participates in the ride. In 2024, the PMC is expected to surpass its long-awaited and illusive goal of a grand total of $1,000,000,000 raised in the name of supporting cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber's Cancer Institute. 2024 is going to be a "one in a billion", historic year for the Pan-Mass Challenge, and that is why I want to make it extra special by elevating my fundraising goal to $10,000 in the pursuit of the "PMC Heavy Hitter" status. I will need all the support and publicity I can get to reach this enormous goal, and I will be forever grateful for your help and consideration.
As for why I participate in the Pan-Mass Challenge, I have a few reasons. Getting the obvious things out of the way, it takes place close to where I live, and therefore it allows me easy access to taking part in an important cause in a fun and exciting way. But, like for a majority of PMC riders and volunteers, this challenge is also something much more personal. As I am only 17, I recognize that I have not yet been through even the smallest percentage of toils that life can bring, but I have been, multiple times, indirectly affected by cancer. And the scariest part is that I share this experience with a huge population of people, including those whose friends and family members have suffered from or succumbed to the disease, and also those who have directly experienced the disease, although that is another level of pain that I could never imagine. But this expansive and ever-growing trend of people who have been, in one way or another, affected by cancer is exactly what the PMC is attempting to eradicate, and I could not be more eager to join that initiative. As always, I will take on my third Pan-Mass Challenge in both memory and honor of those who have both beaten, succumbed to, or are fighting through cancer, including my beloved Aunty Dawn, Prof. Will Marquess, and family friends Christy Magoon and Emily Peterson Alva. I love you all.
Once again, I would be extremely appreciative of your considering donating to my page and the cause. You, the supporters of PMC riders, are who make this initiative continue to cycle year after year, and in doing so help save countless lives. Thank you, Billy Starr and the Pan-Mass Challenge, for your work, this community, this amazing ride, and everything else you do!
