I hope this letter finds you and your families well. On August 5-6, I will ride my very first Pan-Mass Challenge, an annual bike-a-thon that benefits the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Last year, the PMC raised $69 million, bringing the total to $900 million in the past 42 years. The PMC accounts for over 50% of Dana-Farber’s fundraising, and 100% of your donations support DFCI’s mission.
You may be wondering why I'm volunteering to bike >150 miles in one weekend. (Many of you know I'm not the most disciplined exerciser.) My sister Meryl found an aggressive cancerous tumor in her breast two years ago. Her treatment included surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and hormonal injections. Meryl is thankfully all clear now due to her catching the tumor early and the amazing medical treatments that have been developed over recent years funded in large part by private donations. In honor of Meryl and her two beautiful sons (my nephews Alex and Graham), I've decided to ride the PMC and donate all my donations towards Breast Cancer research at Dana Farber.
I'll be riding this year on Team Duncan, a team comprised of 75 riders with a goal of raising $600,000 for DFCI, directed towards breast cancer research! While team members come from all over New England and beyond, we’re united by the enthusiasm and spirit of Duncan Finigan, who passed away in 2019 and for whom the team is named.
There is still a ton of work to be done to erase cancer off the map. Please consider sponsoring my ride and helping Dana-Farber continue its excellence in research and patient care. You can donate at https://profile.pmc.org/LJ0076 . I will be forever grateful for your support.
