As I get ready to ride the Pan-Mass Challenge for my 30th year, I am in awe of the unwavering commitment of everyone who makes this event possible. 6500 dedicated riders, over 3000 selfless volunteers, and an incredible network of donors, sponsors, and local communities all come together to raise funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This year, we are on the brink of a monumental milestone- raising a billion dollars for the Dana-Farber since the PMCs’ inception. What a moment to celebrate!
As Linc and I mount our bikes this year, gearing up for the monumental 192-mile Pan-Mass Challenge bike ride on August 3rd and 4th, our dedication to this cause burns brighter than ever. We’re not just cycling - we are on a profound mission to stand with our friends and loved ones battling cancer. The PMC is more than a ride. It encompasses cherished memories of friends forged during early morning rides, rigorous training sessions and the camaraderie of fellow riders, all unified in the fight against this relentless disease.
The PMC is unparalleled in its impact, donating 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This incredible effort funds lifesaving cancer research, treatment and patient care. As Dana-Farber’s largest single contributor, the PMC accounts for 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue. In 2023 alone, the PMC contributed $72 million. Linc and I are thrilled to share that our collective fundraising efforts will surpass $1 million this year. That achievement is a testament to the collective effort of our amazing fundraising team over the years!
This year, our cycling team proudly supports the PMC Pedal Partner Program, connecting us with pediatric oncology patients of the Jimmy Fund Clinic. These brave children receive cutting edge treatment and exceptional care, thanks to the funds raised by the PMC. Our cycling team will be riding for 8 year-old Declan Vail. Declan is a fun-loving kid who is battling brain cancer. Declan just recently started a new drug that eliminates BRAF brain tumors in 80% of patients and we all are rooting for him!
Last year I raised $10,500 and I have set my 2024 goal at $12,000. I hope you will join me supporting this vital cause. Please make your check out to “PMC/Jimmy Fund” and send it to me at Lois Cornell, 31 Farm Hill Road, Natick, MA 01760 by September 1, or visit www.PMC.org and enter my rider ID # LC0019. Your support strengthens our resolve as we pedal onward in the fight against cancer.
