This is my 3rd ride, because F**K YOU CANCER!!!
I can't think of one human these days that isn't touched by Cancer. Many of you know I ride for Abby! ...Her dad is now a rider and said it best "I know I have to continue to do this, I know I am part of something bigger than me."
This year has been particularly difficult, my father-in-law lost is battle and now Abby's cancer is back. I am angry, pissed, sad, sick, upset, heartbroken, in denial, and I'm not a parent. We need research and care to help families NEVER, EVER hear that their 5 year old has cancer FOR THE THIRD TIME! We need to do ALL we can to eliminate this awful plague.
In the grand scheme of things, it isn't much. Riding 192 miles, or raising $4300. Yea sure it's hard, but not even remotely as hard as ONE DAY or even ONE HOUR that a family dealing with cancer has to endure.
I was ever so moved at my first PMC opening ceremonies. A man stood up on stage, and told us the story of his son who was battling an extremely rare and grave cancer. He showed pictures and described the battle to all of us. You had no idea how his story was going to end. He told us how Dana Farber's was able to use unrestricted funds to research this VERY RARE cancer. Then he said "I'm pleased to introduce you to my son" who then proceeded to ride his bike up the middle of the auditorium! I want to see more children ride their bikes. I want no parents to have to deal with this. I want no family to have to watch a loved one suffer.
We HAVE to stop this, and the only way to do it is research!
I ask you to donate today to help me make a tiny dent in that research. I want to rejoice instead of be pissed! I want to go ride my bike with these kids instead of wanting to throw up. I want to make it GO AWAY!
Thank you for listening!
-Laura
My dedication list is long, I rode for about 50 people last time, my friends, family and loved ones of my supporters.
Honor, and in Memory!
To my Grandmother Helen who died 2 months before I was born, my mom's only brother Rick, my godfather Earl, godmother Jean, Aunt Carol, Uncle Jerry, Cousins Sonya B, and Tanya B, friend Ero, My training partner Ali, Team Lane Goodwin, Belle, Maryanne M, Audrey, Deborah C., Peter R., Paul M, Janet R, Alanna B., Tom G, Lori L, Monica C, Ali M, Fawn L., Cathy H., Anne M., Lindell M., Peter D., Paul C., Joe R., Kerri M, Nicole P, Joe M. Joan A My team's pedal partner, Phoebe and all the pedal partners for the PMC. And my furry friends. Gemini, Nali, and Apollo.
I dedicate this ride to two special people, my Father-In-Law and one special princess ABBY!
This little girl, is THE REASON we all ride, she is THE REASON we all donate, she is THE REASON we all make sacrifices and THE REASON we all have hope that we can conquer this!
I work with and have known Abby's mom, Laurie for a very long time, and I'm very honored that she has allowed me to share Abby with you all! At 18 Months Abby was diagnosed with a brain tumor called an Ependymoma. I was brought to tears and knew I needed to do something so here I am. Team Abby has its ups and downs. She went almost 2 years without a tumor, then it returned. She underwent treatment a 2nd time, and was 'clear' from the brain cancer for another 18 months. Monday, we found out her cancer returned. The plan is unknown at this time. IT is unfair that it is 'unknown' - another reason we NEED to have PLANS! We need research! We need a cure!
She is the strongest woman I know AT FIVE YEARS OLD! she is a bubbly, silly, crazy outfit, fashion disaster, awesome little girl that loves her princesses, fairies, babies, cupcakes, and her best friend/brother!.
We need to continue to raise awareness until this beast is cured. It is not fair for children to have to deal with this, so let's do what we can! I know I am going to try to make my small contribution.
If you can, every dollar matters, please consider supporting a great cause!
