I ride for Charlie...
Those who know me well know my passionate disdain for cycling. Between the uncomfortable seat, endless hills and cars whizzing by, I have successfully avoided bike rides with my avid cyclist of a husband for years. However, if there is one thing that could get me back on a bike, it is my son Charlie.
Charlie was diagnosed with cancer when I was 36 weeks pregnant. To get him the best care and give him a fighting chance, he was delivered early and underwent aggressive chemotherapy to treat his malignant rhabdoid tumors peppered throughout his body and brain. The strength that Charlie exerted during his five months of intense chemotherapy was beyond measure. He not only continued to smile and laugh each day but also meet his developmental milestones.
If Charlie can undergo months of chemotherapy with strength and perseverance, I can ride the PMC for him. I can educate our community about pediatric cancer and the incredible care that the doctors and nurses at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institution and Boston Children’s Hospital provide. I can raise funds to go towards research for a cure. And I can raise funds to go towards other families who need support while their kids are fighting for their lives.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. On April 15, 2021 Charlie was freed of his disease and joined our loved ones in heaven. Until the day we meet again, I will ride for you my love.
