Our two-person team Cycle for Sal was inspired by and named for our PaPa, whose life cancer claimed in April 2015. In the summer of 2016, in his honor, we trained and fundraised and in August 2016 we left our little 3-year old Annie and one-year old Noah and rode off to join over 6,000 cyclists in our first Pan Mass Challenge. We rode 170 miles in 2 days. We CYCLED FOR SAL and everyone else whose lives have been impacted by cancer.
Following the addition of Claire to our family and a subsequent return from COVID we opted to ride in the Wellesley Century PMC in 2021 and 2022. Last year we triumphantly returned to the 2-day ride. In August 2023 we rode 170 miles. From Wellesley to Provincetown. We rode. And we raised $12,000 to fight cancer, thanks in large part to the generous donations of our friends and family.
We made the same commitment this year. Only next week, instead of hopping on the bike and starting our cherished training regimen, I will be heading in for surgery to repair my ACL, which I tore in a skiing accident this past winter.
And so we pivot.
Garrick will train. I will focus on recovery, rehab and retraining with the goal of riding a PMC reimagined on my trainer this August. Garrick will ride from Wellesley to Provincetown (on his birthday!) and I will cheer him on from my saddle here at home. Together in our hearts.
PaPa taught us that there are only two important decisions you make in this world—what you choose to do with your life and what you choose to do with your love. He will forever be an inspiration to us. And in the spirit of PaPa, we have renewed our commitment to focusing a bit of our lives and a bit of our love to the search for a cure for cancer.
Together, but separate, we will ride. And with your help, we will fight.
We hope you can help us to achieve this significant goal. Every donation brings us closer by the mile. One hundred percent of your donation goes directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to fund innovative research, which will enhance the remarkable care it provides to countless patients and their families.
Let us come together to help those diagnosed with cancer have the opportunity to fight…and win. On behalf of our family, and all the families around the world whose lives have been touched by cancer, we thank you for your support. May our collective aspirations set the stage for a cancer-free world.
