Occupational cancer continues to be the leading cause of death in the fire service. While the International Association of Firefighters and Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts are working to make our jobs safer, the grim reality is that the turnout gear we wear and the environments we work in are making us sick. On a more personal note, over a half dozen Norwood Firefighters have been diagnosed with cancer and are currently seeking treatment. In February of 2021, our brother, John Bellanti, lost his battle to multiple myeloma.

This year I will ride with the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts PMC team. We hope to raise a significant amount of funds in support of the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. With their tireless commitment to finding a cure, we hope to one day bring an end to cancer in the fire service.
