It’s that time of the year again! Lester and I are actively training to ride in the PMC which will be held on August 5-6, 2023! We have committed to ride 85 miles on Saturday, August 5th from Babson College in Wellesley to Mass Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay! This year, we joined Team Fear Nothing so all the money that we raise will go to Dr. Kimmie Ng, for her colorectal research and we will be riding alongside Lester’s caregivers!
Last year, we rode 50 miles on the third hottest PMC in history. I even found out 4 days prior to our ride that I had a chronically dislocated right elbow which contributed to a fair amount of pain during our ride. Together we raised about $17,900! The PMC raised $69 million dollars and 100% of the rider raised donations were passed through to Dana Farber!
Some fun facts about DF. Dana Farber has been recognized as one of the top three cancer centers in the world! One in four new FDA-approved cancer drugs in the last 10 years were influenced by Dana-Farber researchers. Fifty-one biotech start-ups were launched using Dana-Farber intellectual property. Lastly, twenty-two novel cancer drugs developed at Dana-Farber have been added to the World Health Organization’s list of essential medicines. So donating to our PMC can result in chemotherapy that is administered at your local cancer center!
We are actively training now! Training was delayed this year as we both completed 2 courses of physical therapy and Lester worked with Landry’s bikes to adapt my bike to accommodate my chronically dislocated right elbow. In June we rode about 84 miles in one week. On Sunday we rode 32 miles locally in Franklin, Norfolk, Millis, Sherborn, Holliston, and Medway. It was a beautiful day to ride! A few days later we drove to the Cape and rode 52.4 miles on the Cape Cod Rail Trail from Yarmouth to Wellfleet. We’re took a few days off to recover which is awesome since it was scheduled to rain on the weekend! Along the way we spotted many other PMC riders training for our ride in August!
Any gift, large or small, goes a long way to help fund DF ongoing research to eradicate cancer and remember every dollar raised goes directly to Dana-Farber.
Finally, we love to ride in honor of you or your loved ones who have battled or are battling cancer. We write the names of our loved ones and friends on ribbons on our bike helmets that stream behind us when we ride the PMC. Last year we rode with 27 individuals. So please let us know if you have a name to add to our ribbons. The more the merrier when we are closer by the mile to a cure!
Thank you for considering this request for supporting our PMC ride this year!
