I ride, because it's the best way I can contribute to help so many people. Some who are currently fighting the good fight, some who have battled and won, and others who were taken too soon. I have been working for DFCI on & off for the last 8 years. I see first hand, what these patients go through; the struggles, the tears, the fears, and the triumphs.
Since 1980, 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. I have met and cared for so many amazing people and their families! Not only have they given me purpose, but they continue to lift me up and give me courage with their perseverance and resilience.
This year will be my 2nd ride and I'm honored to be joining the Dana Farber team, The F.L.A.M.E.S. (Fast Legs And Minds End Suffering). The F.L.A.M.E.S. team has been riding for 21 years and have raised millions of dollars for cancer research and treatment. They consist of 21 (and counting) cancer survivors, doctors, nurses, and other DFCI professionals.
For this year's ride, on top of riding for all my incredible patients and their families, I will be riding in honor of The Gentle Giant, #59, the one and only; Reid Garrant. Reid Landry Garrant was a 22 year old young man who passed away from Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (apml/apl), after only being diagnosed on the previous day. The Garrant family has contributed to so much positivity and love not only to my life but to the whole Leukemia world and the families struggling through it.
This ride is the least I can do to help bring support and awareness to this situation. This is why, I will continue to ride in the PMC and raise money to help the cause, for one day we can have a world without cancer!
So please help me in this cause! Let's ride and raise for DFCI!!!
