Hello and welcome to my PMC profile page!
This is my second year as a PMC rider. Because of the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, I wasn't sure how I would participate in the PMC this year until recently. I'll be a "virtual" rider and will ride 100 miles from Yarmouth to Provincetown and back. I'm raising money to support the leading low-grade pediatric brain tumor program in the country, located at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, as part of Team Fidelity Investments. The money raised through our team's efforts is key to advancing foundational research and clinical trials that can improve treatment options for patients. A family member of mine died of pediatric brain cancer in the 1960s when chemotherapy was just starting to be offered to children. Institutions like Dana Farber have improved therapies significantly since then. With the funds raised through the Pan-Mass Challenge I'm hopeful that a cure is right around the corner.
Each year, Team Fidelity Investments pairs up with a person (called a Pedal Partner) currently undergoing treatment for low-grade pediatric brain cancer at Dana Farber. This year our Pedal Partner is Willa Mooney. Willa is seven years old and has been receiving treatment from a team of Dana Farber doctors for a couple years. Although she has endured chemotherapy, several surgeries, significant weight loss, and other complications, she is still strong, feisty, and opinionated. She loves french fries, milkshakes, Lucky Charms, animals, playing with friends, legos, and jigsaw puzzles!
Any funds I raise will go toward developing better treatments for children like Willa. Last year, 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to supporting the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. I appreciate any and all contributions toward my fundraising goal!
Keep pedaling,
Kara
