Greetings to Family and Friends for my 2024 PMC ride,
Cancer does not discriminate. I have said this before but this year it rings truer than ever. In less than a year, three people we know including a playful two and half year old, an amazing 35 year old mother of three, and an incredible 70 year old, all faced new and rare cancer diagnoses. This does not include the other people we know diagnosed recently with the more common and ubiquitous cancers. And then others who sadly passed away after valiantly and with courageous grit and fortitude, endured all kinds of treatments.
We lose too many people to cancer but many of them have lived longer and better lives because of the discoveries of Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Phil and I therefore will ride again! We will ride on August 3 and 4 to raise funds to support clinicians and researchers to push further in advancing and accelerating cancer prevention, more precise screening tools, and treatment innovations. We know that these gains will give everyone affected by cancer in Boston and around the world, including myself and future generations, the additional vital medicines of time and hope for even better, kinder interventions and ultimately a cure.
Participating in the Pan Mass Challenge and all it represents continues to give us time to think, pause, act and yes, pedal a lot. Our pedaling pales in comparison to what those in the throes of a new diagnosis and treatment face. The heroic and determined clinicians at DFCI guide me and so many others through the cancer maze and provide exemplary state of the art care and support, I continue to be “Living Proof” of the benefits of these cutting-edge interventions and the importance of regular, astute, and vigilant follow-up care. In the past year, some achievements by DFCI include: deeper analysis of the basic science of how cells and molecules work in our body- the underpinnings of all cancer; liquid biopsies, aka, blood tests to detect cancer in a gentler manner; immunotherapy; genetics leading to more individualized therapies; delivering results from clinical labs and trials to patients faster than ever; among many other pioneering efforts.
I therefore humbly write to ask for your support. No donation is too small and does makes a difference, even if it is just your virtual support and good karma! A monumental testament to DFCI is that 100% of your donation goes to this cause and sets the standards nationally and globally.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. I am extremely grateful to be blessed by your friendship and support. As always, I appreciate your prayers and positive energy for safe and smooth roads and clear skies. In the meantime, celebrate each day robustly, generously share your kindness with others, and smile!
With warm hugs, sincere gratitude, and much love, Kathy
