Hello!
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. Every year 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
Three things motivate my 2024 ride:
1. I ride in memory of my mother, Ida. She was diagnosed with late-stage multiple myeloma in September 2009 and passed away only 6 months later after enduring one round of targeted drug therapy that did not impact her cancer. She was an otherwise healthy 66 years old with so much life ahead of her! My mother was treated at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In the nearly 15 years since she passed, treatment for multiple-myeloma has advanced significantly. Now patients can receive novel biologically based therapies or advanced CAR T-cell therapy. Dana-Farber has led the way with these new therapies and clinical trials, which have greatly increased the multiple myeloma prognosis for patients since my mother was diagnosed. I ride to fund multiple myeloma research.
2. I also ride for Zoey, the Flames (my amazing PMC team!) pedal partner. Zoey is 7 years old, and she is currently being treated by Dr. Barbara Degar at the Jimmy Fund Clinic for T-ALL Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Zoey has been through a 2-year aggressive treatment protocol, which she will complete May 15th! Zoey lives in Londonderry, NH, with her parents (Dawn and John) and her 3-year-old sister Addison. Zoey has a wonderful grin and big brown curls. She is a BIG fan of rainbows, unicorns and mermaids. She has a Bernadoodle named Koa who she loves too. Her favorite color is pink, and she also loves tie-dye. Zoey and her family can’t wait for what they pray is her final treatment. These past two years have been incredibly grueling for this young family. I ride to help children like Zoey.
3. Finally, I ride because I know what it is like to lose a loved one far too soon. My wife of 25 beautiful years, Wendy, passed away a little over a year ago, at only 53, from a sudden and unexpected heart attack. My daughters and I would give anything for more time with her ... a gentle touch, an encouraging word, an enthusiastic song. So I ride now to give others more precious time with their loved ones.
I thank you in advance for your generous donation! - Jon Wright
