To honor the life of my dear mother, Susan Ruth Mason, I would like to ask for your support. This summer, on August 6th, 2017, I am riding the 38th Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) in her memory to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The PMC is the largest fundraiser of its kind and this year the PMC hopes to raise $48 million for cancer research. I will be riding the 80 mile one-day ride across Cape Cod from Bourne to Provincetown, Massachusetts. Cape Cod is a place my mom loved as do my dad and I.
In the summer of 2015, I remember watching the PMC ride by on 6A in Brewster with her, with our signs that said ride random rider, ride and talking about how we wanted to ride the PMC together the next summer. Unfortunately, my mom passed away in January of 2016 and we were never able to ride the PMC together, but my desire to ride the PMC has never changed.
In fact, when I really think about it, I know that deep down I have wanted to ride the PMC ever since I was 10 years old and dragged myself out of bed (or more likely was dragged out of bed by my counselor) at 5:30 AM my second summer (first full summer) at Cape Cod Sea Camps to cheer on the PMC riders at Da Hedge. I remember when I volunteered in Provincetown my last summer at camp, in 2010, and I was so amazed by what all of the riders had just accomplished.
Last summer when I volunteered at the Brewster water stop with my dad, I thought that next year, I could and should be one of those riders next year. And now, in the summer of 2017, I will be riding in the PMC! I have been training since January and I know if I continue to put my mind to it I can do it! But I need your help to get there! My goal is to raise $5,000 to support the very important research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Please donate to my ride in memory of my mom, Susan Ruth Mason, who would be so proud that I am finally riding the PMC!
Thank you so much for your support!
