This year, I am riding for the first time. Throughout my life, I have learned that people come and go and some make greater impacts than others. About seven years ago, someone new entered my life. His name is Sweet Lou. We call him Sweet Lou for a reason as he is one of the most charismatic individuals I have ever met. After about two rounds of golf, I immediately knew he was going to be in my life for a long time. Over the years our friendship has grown beyond the golf course, and we have become family friends. He has four beautiful kids and an absolutely amazing wife, Dana. They have welcomed me into their lives with open arms.
Last year, their five-year-old daughter, Blake was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. As one could imagine, this was absolutely devestating news for their family and myself. Although I knew I wanted to help, I had no idea how. There was something new happening every day and every week. From surgeries to chemotherapy to late-night trips to Boston when Blake spiked a fever. It just seemed like they were fighting a never-ending battle. This family's resilience has been truly inspiring; they do whatever it takes. Most importantly, through everything they have gone through, I have watched them remain true to the amazing people they are.
So here is what I can do: I am going to ride a bike 162 miles in two days; I am going to raise as much money as I can to help fight this horrible disease, and I am going to be there for my friend as we do this together. I have not ridden a bike since I was around 14 years old. Although there are few people who believe I can do this, I will do whatever it takes. Blake and the entire Ravanis family are so inspirational and I am honored to be a part of their journey. Please join me in supporting the Ravanis family by donating whatever you can, no amount is too small. Every penny donated goes directly to Dana-Farber. Hopefully, to give you a good laugh at the end, I will post a picture of myself finishing.
Thank you for your support!
