I have been so lucky to support the Teplow family and other loved ones who ride for Deb's Team over the past years in memory of Jon's sister, Debbie, who passed away due to a glioblastoma in 2007. Every August thousands of riders participate in the Pan Mass Challenge to ride from Wellesley or Sturbridge to Bourne, MA and then and then many ride the next day for another 70 miles to Provincetown. We always have a dinner on the Cape Saturday night to remember Deb, share stories, laugh and talk about what it means to be a part of the PMC.
I have always wished I could be a part of the ride, but due to my back issues and surgeries, biking 150 miles outside is not a good idea. This year I decided that I would do a virtual ride during the month of July in order to be a peddling member of Deb's Team. I have been riding almost every day this month and my goal is to ride at least 500 miles of PowerZone classes on the Peloton by the time PMC weekend is here. I am hoping to raise at least $1000 for the PMC which will go directly to the Jimmy Fund and to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to find a cure.
I am riding in memory of Deborah Teplow, who, I never met, but feel I know her so well through all the stories and by becoming so close with her amazing children and husband. I am also riding in memory of my dear cousin, Dr. Alan Saffran who we lost to pancreatic cancer at the young age of 52. He was the true definition of a mensch and his legacy is carried on through his 3 outstanding children.
This year I am also riding in honor of my dear friend , Dr Janice Montague , who I did my Residency with. She was diagnosed with breast cancer this year and has fought just like I expected her to-with strength and dignity . She is doing well and has continued working throughout her treatments in order to continue to do what she's best at- taking care of children. I know she will beat this because she doesn't ever give up !
Please support me and Deb's Team in our effort to raise money for this incredible cause so that our efforts will bring about better treatments for current and future DFCI patients. 100% of your donation goes to DFCI and brings that hope closer to reality.
