To my family, friends and colleagues:
On August 2nd and 3rd, I will be participating in my 9th Pan-Mass Challenge and will ride the traditional 2-day PMC route from Sturbridge, Massachusetts to Provincetown, Massachusetts (186 miles). This will be my 9th time riding PMC and will be riding with my FORZA-G teammates again, but I ride for the same reason I did when I rode in my 1st PMC in 2017. I ride in memory of my good friend Jeff, who passed away from cancer in June 2017 (I cannot believe it has been 8 years). He was a mentor and a true friend, and I Iooked up to him like a big brother. Many of you knew Jeff and if you never did – you would value his friendship and guidance, as I do even to this day.
Whether through training rides or the PMC event, Jeff is always with me. When he was fighting his cancer, he told me when he beat his cancer, he wanted to ride with me – we never got to do that ride together so when I ride, I know he is riding with me and during PMC he is beside me the entire ride. Every year when I cross the finish line, I can see him with a big wide grin like he always had.
To me the ride is hard and usually hot but it is so easy when I think of who I am doing it for. Every dollar we raise goes directly to continue the fight for a cure and research. Since I have been riding many close family members, friends and colleagues have passed from cancer, continue to fight cancer or have survived cancer. I honor all of the people that cancer has touched as it grows larger every year.
Everyone has a Jeff in their life and I continue to honor him the best way I can.
Please consider donating to PMC to help the cause to raise funds for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to DFCI. I could not do it without your generous support.
Kind Regards,
Jayme
