Why I Ride ...
Dear Friends,
It is the first weekend of August (August 3rd and 4th) and that can only mean one thing...the annual Pan Mass Challenge! As you know the PMC is the largest athletic fundraising event in the USA which raises money for the sole purpose of providing life-saving cancer research and treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. With your assistance over the past 17 years, I have been lucky enough to raise $155,000+ for this critical mission.
This weekend will be my 18th consecutive year riding and 2024 has brought a particularly difficult moment for me. Our long-time Pedal Partner, Sally Naser (below), passed away due to her cancer reappearing this past February at the age of 24. Sally was an amazing person to all who knew her. Sally had an unwavering spirit and positivity that was infectious. She never let cancer define her and lived her life to the fullest every day. I remember with joy that just a few short years ago, Sally had undergone a revolutionary gene therapy and for the first time since she was 10 years old was living cancer free. This reminder of how quickly cancer can reappear and materially impact the lives of those you know and love is sobering. I will be thinking of Sally, her family and the myriad friends I know and have known that encounter this horrific disease with every pedal stroke this weekend. I ride for them!
I cannot thank you enough for your continued support and commitment to this very special cause and pledge to you that i will continue riding until a cure is found for everyone afflicted with this insidious and all to prevalent disease.
