Thank you!!!!
By donating to support my ride you are choosing to be part of a massive ride-a-thon that channels 100% of your donation directly to fund cancer research and patient care through the Jimmy Fund of Dana Farber.
2024 marks my 15th year of riding in the Pan Mass Challenge as a member of Team Big Jon.
We ride to honor the life of a wonderful man, Jon Weiss, the father of a friend of my youngest daughter, Srob, and a close friend of many of my teammates. Jon died of kidney cancer in 2007 at the age of 44. We also ride in memory of, and to honor, family members and friends.
I ride as a way to mark the lives of my mom, Esther Oberman, who in 2002 died of mesothelioma; my mother-in-law Sonia Breindel, a Holocaust survivor, who died of cancer-related complications in September, 2015; my brother-in-law, Eric Breindel, who died twenty-seven years ago, only 42 years old, of non-Hodgkin’s-lymphoma; friends Stuart Abrams and George Sawdy; Arthur Markus -- the wonderful and loving grandfather and father to close family friends; Ron Arp, who rode with Team Big Jon in 2014 and his wife, Rebecca; High School classmate, Ed Townsend; Oscar E. Rodriquez, the older brother of our almost-daughter Emily; my High School classmate, Miles Stuchin, Brad Northrup, a gentle soul who rode with Team Big Jon, my high school friend and classmate, James Blaine, and many others almost too numerous to name.
I dedicate this year's ride to the memory of three people, my High School classmate Jmaes Blaine, my Cape Cod neighbor Dick Dimock, and Gail Nussbaum Kaplan, the sister of my high school friend, Bob. They all lived lives defined by love for and loyalty to family, and to a fierce and quiet joy in every day they had to share with them.
I also ride to honor those who are with us, in remission, or fighting cancer, and those who fight with them by sharing love and support -- their families, friends and care providers.
And that group of survivors grows larger each year.
Every rider and volunteer in this inspiring event has a personal connection to cancer. It is that shared bond that makes the hours on the roads and the entire weekend as special as it is.
By giving, you especially support the children who stand and clap and cheer and carry signs thanking the riders and the Dr.s, nurses, researchers and everyone else at Dana Farber who have hepled them stay alive. You support those children who give the rest of us hope.
