LuAnn and I are supporting the glioblastoma research of Dr. David Reardon at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute by joining the Pan Mass Challenge Crus11Tour team, which honors the memory of Davey Hovey. All the money raised by Crus11Tour supports Dr. Reardon's work.

Davey Hovey died of glioblastoma in 2017 at age 26. Our son Alden was a youth hockey teammate of Davey. Our son Jack was a teammate of Tommy Hovey. We crossed paths with the Hoveys through high school and perhaps with 30 other boys who all played hockey in Simsbury, as well as lacrosse and soccer in the surrounding towns.

In 2016, LuAnn and I biked Ride Closer to Free with our friend Elliott Shyer benefiting Smilow Cancer Hospital; Elliott passed in 2017. We will ride for the 10th time this September, but we will not be fundraising to support that ride. Funding Ride Closer to Free for both of us will be done privately.

We are asking our supporters of our rides at Smilow to support the Crus11Tour at this year's Pan-Mass Challenge.

When we decided to support Crus11Tour, LuAnn and I reached out to Dave Hovey, Davey's Dad, about how glioblastoma has been an unfortunate part of our family for many, many years. Our list was longer than we first thought.

This year, I will ride the Pan Mass Challenge Sturbridge to Bourne stage, 109 miles, to support Crus11Tour and the glioblastoma research of Dr. Reardon Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
